EducationThe Scotland County School System is one of the best funded in the state. The system serves 7,000 students in 14 schools, all of which are accredited by the State of North Carolina and by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. All were recently named "Exemplary Schools" by the State of North Carolina. Education beyond the high school level is also available locally at Richmond Community College, a two-year school, and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, a four-year state supported university |

Child CareA variety of child care options are available in Scotland County. Parents, care providers, and community members take advantage of a variety of services offered by Child Care Directions, a private, non-profit, child care resource and referral agency. Some of the services provided by the agency include counseling and consumer education, referrals to all types of care, parenting workshops, a resource library, training and technical assistance, and programs for children. |

HealthcareScotland Health Care System is a not-for-profit community owned hospital system which consists of Scotland Memorial Hospital, Scotland Home Health, Inc., Scotland Memorial Foundation, Scotland Regional Comprehensive Care, and The Edwin Morgan Center. The System is governed by a local board of trustees and offers a full range of acute care and inpatient services including substance abuse and intensive care. With a staff of over 700 and over 60 physicians and providers, the hospital operates a multi-million-dollar outpatient facility and five specialty outpatient clinics, two of which are associated with Duke University Medical Center. Scotland Urgent Care provides daily treatment for minor emergencies and illnesses and is open 7 days 8:00 am - 8:00 pm. http://www.scotlandhealth.org |

Scotland County Parks & Recreation Splash Pad and Recreation Complex Work continues on the Splash Pad, scheduled to be open in the spring of 2005. The local contractor will begin the building the week of August 30, 2004. The Splash Pad contractor has done some minor work and will begin substantial construction this fall. Currently, Scotland County Public Works is installing the erosion and storm control features for the recreation complex. Construction on the ball fields will begin after storm control measures are completed. |
